glock g17 vs 19

Glock G17 Vs 19 - Glock makes some of the best handguns in the world, used by the military, police and civilians around the world. While all of their pistols are very popular, the Glock 17 and Glock 19 probably take the top spots.

Both of these guns are very capable and effective. Both are chambered in 9mm and use similar designs, materials and testing standards. However, they also have significant differences that set them apart.

So today we are going to pit two of the best and most popular pistols the Glock 17 and 19 against each other and try to answer which one you should get.

Glock G17 Vs Glock G19 Size Comparison

*G17 and G19 have many model generations. In this article we will compare the GEN5 factory models.

In many ways the Glock 17 and 19 are the same. However, the Glock 17 is a full-sized pistol and the Glock 19 is more of a compact or mid-sized pistol. They shoot the same caliber, have identical triggers, and have the same rifles; However, the Glock 19 is a more compact pistol, with a shorter barrel, grip and bolt.

The Glock 17 has a 4.48-inch (114 mm) barrel, while the Glock 19 has a 4-inch (102 mm) barrel. With a shorter barrel, the overall length of the Glock 19 is also shorter. It is 7.28 inches (185 mm) compared to 8.03 inches (204 mm) on the Glock 17.

When it comes to concealment, which is what most compact pistols are designed for, grip height is a more critical factor than slide length. Therefore, the difference in the size of the grip is more pronounced than the difference in the length of the pipe. The Glock 19 has a 5.04-inch (128 mm) grip with the magazine, while the Glock 17 has a 6.50-inch (165 mm) grip height. In terms of frame width and overall width, the Glock 17 and 19 are the same size.

Glock 17 Vs. Glock 19… Which Would You Choose?

Perceived recoil and accuracy tend to depend on the shooter. However, as far as pistol capabilities go, both the Glock 17 and 19 are very accurate in the hands of even an average shooter. Technically, since the Glock 17's barrel is longer, in theory it should provide the bullet with greater stabilization at longer distances and thus be more accurate. However, it is realistically difficult to tell any difference between the accuracy of these pistols. Both are very accurate pistols due to many factors. However, the unique polygonal cutout used in the Glock pistol is one of the main reasons for its exceptional accuracy. Glock modified the rifling and crown on the Gen5 models to further increase its accuracy.

Again, both guns are pretty similar in terms of recoil. Despite the slightly shorter grip, the Glock 19 holds up well even for people with large hands. Weight also affects the recoil impulse of a firearm, and while the Glock 19 is lighter, there is no noticeable difference in recoil. A shorter gun should hit harder, but the difference is so small that a true expert would have to notice it.

In terms of magazine capacity, the Glock 17 holds 17 rounds of 9mm in the magazine, one in the chamber. Note that this is not why it is called a Glock 17. The "17" refers to the patent number, not the magazine capacity. The Glock 19 has a capacity of 15 rounds plus one in the chamber. A shorter slide means it carries a shorter magazine. However, you can use Glock 17 magazines in the Glock 19 if you want, or even opt for higher capacity magazines, but that would obviously reduce the coverage of the Glock 19 and technically it would no longer be a "compact" pistol. In terms of magazine capacity, both models can achieve the same capacity as the G19 can use G17 magazines.

Glock G17 Vs 19

Both the Glock 17 and 19 are excellent and versatile pistols that fit almost any use case. However, with their different sizes, they work better in some applications than others. For example, if you are looking for a full-sized pistol, perhaps for competitive shooting, or you want a home defense pistol that has more capacity out of the box, then the Glock 17 is a better choice. On the other hand, if you are looking for a concealed carry pistol, the Glock 19 is a better choice. Both pistols are excellent for defense and are widely used by law enforcement and military around the world.

So where both the Glock 17 and 19 are among the best 9mm semi-auto pistols in the world and can be used in almost any application, their slight differences set them apart. The Glock 19 is a better choice for concealed carry with its smaller frame and overall profile. On the other hand, the Glock 17 is better for home defense or shooting from all sides due to its higher capacity and larger dimensions. Still, many people use the 17 as their everyday pistol, and many use the 19 for defensive and competitive shooting. Both of these guns are so versatile that they can be used for any application. We often hear the word "revolutionary" associated with new products in the firearms world. However, the number of weapons that truly revolutionize the gun industry is relatively small.

When Glock introduced the G17, it really changed everything we thought we knew about rifles. The company quickly followed up with its smaller brother, the Glock 19. There are some subtle (and not so subtle) differences between the two pistols. In this post, we'll take a look at them and see how they stack up against each other.

Gaston Glock designed the Glock Model 17 in the early 1980s to be a candidate for the Austrian Army's new 9mm service pistol. It was not the first production pistol to use a polymer frame (that honor goes to the H&K VP70), nor was it the first to use a firing pin. The genius of the Glock 17 was that it took these elements and combined them into a simple, easy-to-maintain weapon that was light and accurate.

The Model 19 was the third Glock produced. (The Model 18 is a fully automatic version of the Model 17 intended for the Austrian anti-terrorist unit). It takes all the functions and features of the Glock 17 and scales them down slightly, creating a more compact weapon that is easier to carry.

As we mentioned, Glock originally designed the Model 17l for the Austrian military. As such, it was meant to be worn by soldiers in the field. Its accuracy, robustness and light weight have made it an attractive option for people. However, many shooters needed a slightly smaller gun.

Over the years, Glock has updated the design of its pistols. They've added features like textured grips and finger grooves for a better grip, as well as replaceable back straps for a better fit. They also slightly changed the internal mechanism in the latest Gen 5 models. For our comparison, we looked at the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19. Both have proven to be consistent and reliable performance devices for civilians, military and law enforcement.

In your hand, there is little difference between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19. The pistols are essentially the same, although the 19 has a slightly shorter grip.

The two guns have the same width (1.26 inches) and the same distance from the rear of the slide to the ejection port. Both the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19 have interchangeable back straps, although the Model 17 straps will not fit the Model 19 and vice versa. The Glock 19 in our photos is my personal Model 19. It has a backstrap with a small extension near the slide, which is different than what the Model 17 uses.

The height of both guns is also different. The standard Glock 17 magazine holds 17 rounds, while the standard Glock 19 magazine holds 15 rounds. At 5.47 inches, the 17 has a frame that's just under half an inch taller than the 19's 5.04 inches. The 17 weighs 32.3 ounces unloaded. The smaller 19 model weighs 23.6 ounces.

Barrel and bolt length is where we see the biggest difference between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19. The Gen 4 Model 17 has a slide length of 7.32 inches and a barrel length of 4.49 inches. The Glock 19 has a slide length of 6.85 inches and a barrel length of 4.02 inches.

Due to the different length of the tube and sliding elements, the return springs are not interchangeable. However, all fire control parts in the frame are interchangeable between the two weapons.
